Most of America might have expected that the return of
Brett Favre was the biggest story at the training camp of the Minnesota Vikings. Well, not quite. The hot topic was the collapse of Vikings player
Percy Harvin during practice after suffering migraine headache issues.
During practice, Harvin had what was described as a seizure-like episode, after looking up in to the sky to catch a punt. He has suffered from migraine issues his entire life, and his mother has had them for 30 years.
Once the episode began, Harvin was doubled over and shivering. The players and coaches shielded Harvin from the media, but no one knew what was going on. Given that Harvin has been out of practice for two weeks due to migraine-related issues, most speculate that this was the cause of his most recent on-the-field problem.
"Percy appreciates everyone's concern," coach
Brad Childress said in a statement. "He is alert and resting comfortably but will remain in the hospital overnight."
The team continued practice for roughly five minutes after Harvin's episode, then halted practice while he was loaded on to an ambulance.
"It was an eye-opener," said teammate
Adrian Peterson. "It's been tough for him. I just encourage him the best way I can."
Triggers for migraines can come from a variety of sources, such as humidity or biometric pressure changes. One of the changes occurs from the glare of the sun. Harvin was a star at the
University of Florida before joining the
Vikings last year. He was voted Offensive Rookie of the Year last season. He has a bright future as an NFL player, and the fact that he has been so successful while dealing with such a serious problem serves as inspiration for those of us who make excuses for not reaching our goals. May Percy Harvin have a speedy recovery and also a great season.

Why is he playing football with his condition? What is he waiting for to drop dead on the field? Then the family will be yelling and screaming and filing law suits.

By: Migraines are SERIOUS! on 8/21/2010 1:57PM
Migraines are serious! I pray too for Percy for a good recovery. My son has Migraines and is athletic in Football, Basketball, and Track at school. I tell all of his coaches, to take it easy on him and not have him over due it, let him drink plenty of liquids, and to KEEP HIS MEDS NEARBY. I tell his coaches, if he gets one at practice or any games, to HAVE HIM LAY DOWN in a quite dark room or to send him home. I tell his school teachers the same thing. Parents have to be real stern with coaches because they a lot of times think that the individual can stick it out, be strong, and continue to play the game. NOT MY SON! My son takes Zomig Nasal Spray and it helps him only if he takes it on an onset migraine headache. My son can't take any oral migraine medicine becuase he throws it up and keep it on his stomache. My son misses a lot of school and practice at times and can't help it. He has no control when it comes and I stress this to everybody. I feel bad for anybody with migraines. You can die from having migraines. You have to strongly take every precaution to try to prevent it from happening. I pray that Percy's migraine's go away, I pray that for my son, and everybody in this world.
