While I was sitting on the sideline watching the kids play against one another, I read a story about three NBA players who were all suspended for separate incidents. Brandon Rush of the Indiana Pacers was suspended for violating the league's anti-drug policy. Tyreke Evans of the Sacramento Kings was suspended after pleading no contest in a charge of reckless driving. Kenny Hasbrouk of the Miami Heat was suspended for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The suspensions of Rush, Evans and Hasbrouk present a continuous theme of black athletes finding ways to ruin everything they've worked hard for. Many of us allow our boys to be rushed through school without learning how to read, and we think everything's ok as long as Pookie has a good jump shot. The kid then enters into a state of surreal psychological insulation, where it seems that he can do anything, at any time to anyone without being punished for his behavior. Then, he finds out very quickly that this is not the case.
These three NBA suspensions, in my mind, reiterate the message I'd just shared with the young guys on the court in New Jersey: If you don't make good personal decisions, you are putting your athletic career in serious jeopardy. There are more stories than I can count of athletes who had everything on the court, only to throw it all away with careless behavior. Poor money management decisions allow newly minted black millionaires in the NBA to turn themselves into made-for-TV riches to rags embarrassments. The lack of commitment to educational achievement of the black athlete is almost always the culprit, with a sucker born every minute.
I am not here to judge Tyreke Evans, Kenny Hasbrouk or Brandon Rush. Also, I am not interested in stereotyping every black male athlete in America. But I am certainly willing to confess that there is a toxic culture of ignorance and irresponsibility among the black male athlete in America, and that culture must be destroyed.

So what else is new in the world of sports. Are we suppose to be in a state of shock because some more black sport figures got in trouble. I don't think so.
It is almost a daily ritual reading about blacks in the field of sports getting in some kind of trouble. But thats their life style and they love the spot light.

Having played 4 years of D1 college football, I can attest to the ills of some Black athletes ! I played on a team with guys who all grew up in less than desirable homes !
Crack addicted mom, imprisoned father, drug dealing father, welfare mom !
These guys were great college football players but once the game ended and life went on, they were always getting into something that they shouldn't have been ! Of the 4, one made an NFL and turned his life around and is doing well now.
The other 3 once their eligibility was used up were thrown back into the poor neglected neighborhoods from where they came with no degree and no job skills ! Outside of football, these guys never ever prepared or tried to prepare themselves for something other than the glitz and glamor of the NFL and when that didn't pan out for them, they all returned home to menial minimum wage type jobs and/or started dealing drugs !
No one their families had ever gone past the 8th or 9th grade of school so they had no road map to follow or any role models to look up to !
For those who manage to make a pro roster, the money is just a catalyst for them to do even more harm to themselves because since age 7 when someone seen their athletic potential, they were given a pass to do whatever they wanted and someone would "clean up their mess" !
In high school, I could get away with just about anything short of murder because I had the ability to play football and a coach who has players that are very very talented and can win championships to appease the supporters of the program will do whatever it takes to keep that player eligible to play no matter what infraction that player may incur !
When the recruiters came calling, I was given everything from money, cars to girls by the boat load all for the asking just because I could play football ! I played college ball in the 1990s so I assume it's probably even worse now !
I even had a threesome with two girls on one recruiting trip provided by the people connected with the football program and the girls were students at the school and I'm sure they were compensated in some way for their part in trying to lure me to their school !
This kind of stuff happens all the time and the NCAA has done nothing to curtail it and the professional ranks can't contain either !
Sports in America is a multi-billion dollar business and the powers that be will do anything it takes to protect those who help bring in the big bucks !
