Serena Williams may be out of commission for this year's U.S. Open, but her sister, Venus, is no doubt pulling up the slack. In her match against Roberta Vinci of Italy, she won 6-4, 6-1 -- easily putting her in the second round later this week. Venus did for a moment, though, aggravate a lingering leg injury:"It [her leg] was doing pretty good, till I landed on that leg on the swing volley. ... I was pretty happy to get through after not playing in forever," she told the Associated Press. "Thankfully, after that, [Vinci] did most of the running."
Venus hadn't played in two months because of the injury, forfeiting the WTA Tour this summer for rehab. From the looks of her today, though, it appears she hasn't lost much of her step since she last played at the Wimbledon tournament. That's probably because she's representing the Williams clan by herself this time.
"It's not the same without two Williamses," she said. "I have big shoes to fill with just one Williams here."
Looks like she's doing fine so far. Check out highlights from the match below:

Oh yeah! Go Venus! Do It!!!!! I am so proud of you. I didn't even know you were playing in the US Open this year. You have represented and won for racist america before the world time and time again. You are the winner, and your people know this and love you for this. You win despite the lack of respect you receive from "home." I am a fan and I am rooting for you. Congrats on your win over Italy and advancement to the semi-finals. Keep the trophy in (crazy, stupid, racist) america (ironic, right?)

Only a racist piece of shit would say that.Don't asume everyone is as ignorant as you. Look at the stands next time, I am white and respect the sisters and enjoy watching them play. A lot of people who make negative comments only want to get a response from morons like you, and they do. These same people do that on every site, it doesn't make them racist. Show a little class and just say your support them. You don't have to put down white people at the same time who you know nothing about. If all whites are racist then we should just say all blacks are criminal. Both statements are equally ignorant. If you don't have a brain at least pretend to have one you classless idiot.

@rob, Hey wyte, I was right about the racism in tennis. Did you read what Richard Williams said in his article in the NY Times? Well read it and you will understand why, like everything else in america, Black people will have to establish our own tennis academies if we want to be adequately represented in the field. And, when that happens, watch white folks be the first ones at the door trying to get in. And they will probably let that white devil ass in. If it were up to me, they would not be allowed in, period.

Talented AAs need to still leave this racist country and represent other countries who will respect them and their talent. Dual citizenship or perhaps outright renunciation of american citizenship. If I had the talent and money I would do it in a heart beat. Even I don't have the resources like successful black athletes and entertainers, I still hope to not be buried on american soil.
