Serena Williams Practicing Again, Plans to Play in Fed Cup Final‎Maybe it was Venus Williams losing once again to Kim Clijsters at the U.S. Open last weekend that motivated Serena to hit the court again. Regardless of the reason, though, it's been a couple of months since Serena had surgery on her foot after cutting it on broken glass at a restaurant. This summer she had to sit out the U.S. Open and the World Team Tennis season to heal from the injury, but according to the Associated Press, she's up and about and practicing once again.
"I'm obviously out of the (walking) boot, so I'm in a different boot, not that hideous boot," Williams told the Associated Press.
Apparently she plans to represent the United States in the Fed Ex Cup in November but still hasn't given a definitive date on when she'll be 100 percent and able to play in full action again.

In the meantime, Serena was in New York for the launch of the M Foundation, a nonprofit started by the creators of the athletic skin product Mission SkinCare. She was joined by retired NBA center Alonzo Mourning, Mets third baseman David Wright, Olympic softball gold medalist Jessica Mendoza and UFC champion Georges St. Pierre. The nonprofit is intended to raise money and fund research on skin diseases as well as offer scholarships to young athletes involved in community service.
