Blazers' Greg Oden Out for the Season due to Knee SurgeryWhen you're 7-feet tall (or taller), there's pretty much a guarantee that you will have knee problems, especially if you're a basketball player.

For the Portland Trailblazers' Greg Oden, the No. 1 draft pick in 2007 and a 7-footer, knee problems is just part of the process.

For the third time in the past four years, Oden will have another knee surgery. Oden's rookie year was postponed because of an injury on his right knee and last season broke his left kneecap. Now he's requiring microfracture surgery on his left knee to repair damaged cartilage.

"As you can expect, this young man is devastated about not having the opportunity to play this season, being so close to getting back on the floor and just all of a sudden, this situation comes up and it's like, here we go again for him," Portland coach Nate McMillan said during a press conference.

Oden will have the surgery done in Vail, Colorado. Since being drafted, Oden has only played in 82 games for the Blazers, missing 176. Because of the injuries, the Blazers announced that they were not going to offer Oden a contract extension, the first No. 1 pick to not get an extension since Kwame Brown.

"We sat there and it was like we'd been kicked in the stomach," Blazers trainer Jay Jensen said about seeing the damage in an MRI. "It felt like hearing someone close to us had died."

In the meantime, veteran Marcus Camby will start in Oden's place.
