There was a bunch of drama after the
Tennessee Titans lost to the
Washington Redskins, 19-16, on Sunday, and head coach
Jeff Fisher and quarterback
Vince Young were in the middle of it.
Young was frustrated when Fisher took him out of the game, after he injured his thumb. Young believed that he could still play and that Fisher didn't have any confidence in him to lead the team.
Young was booed most of the day, and after the game, he threw his shoulder pads in to the stands. The drama continued in the locker room, when Fisher was trying to talk to the team. Young was reportedly cursing and mumbling under his breath during Fisher's post-game talk. When Fisher asked him to be quiet, the two exchanged words and Young stormed out of the locker room, not speaking with the media.
"It was very frustrating,"
Young told ESPN's Adam Schefter about the day's events, admitting he didn't handle himself appropriately. "It was just an awkward situation. I just want to play football. I want to win games. I want to go to the Super Bowl. That's it."
What may be even more frustrating for Young is his torn flexor tendon on his throwing hand, which will need season-ending surgery. Young will be placed on injured reserve this week, but if he was healthy, he wouldn't have played anyway. Fisher said that his behavior after Sunday's game was going to have him on the bench. As far as throwing the pads in to the stands, Young said he was giving it to the daughter of longtime Titans Executive Vice President
Don MacLachlan:
"She's been very supportive of me and I wanted to give it to her as a sign of thanks, because she knows what I'm going through," Young said.

Sorry this is long but I'm seeing a pattern
I agree with Dreamer. The buck stops with the boss. This scenario was played out in Washington. Fisher and Shanahan were fellow coaches in their youth with the 49er's. Maybe this was Fisher's way of making their football philosophies relevant. What is that philosophy? I'm the coach and I don't like the QB you[Owner] have given me. I'm going to make it difficult for them. I'm the MAN!!
What folks are forgetting is how Fisher literally handed the game over to the youngster as if he had been there before. Like he was really seasoned and ready to lead the team. Translation: The Black guy doesn't get it but this young white kid does and can be just as effective. Hmmmmmm...sounds familiar? Yeap....Donovan can't run the two minute drill but the nobody white boy who knows OUR playbook can get it done. To these guys it's not about athleticism but....I dunno....mechanics maybe? I can't think of anything but stereotyping....race...an interpersonal comfort zone.
Sure, Vince had the confusion with his mother...the bar photo's and bar fights. But, so what!! He's a football player and not a politician. The days of QB's being held as military generals are over. They are one of the 11 players on offense now. All must produced and Vince has.
Top QB's in the NFL ranking wise are:
Vick, Young, Garrard and Manning. No...that's not a typo. :)
So, Shanahan...I mean Fisher....Justify your quick trigger? Donovan has been in several Pro Bowls and hell....Vince hasn't done too badly winning honors and games either. Justify the quick trigger? I wonder how a white QB ranked in the top five would react to the disrespect we have witnessed by Shanahan and Fisher over the last couple of weeks? I mean really.
But, cooler heads prevail indeed. Once the media paused, stop doing the typical "War" crap and really looked at it[and perhaps themselves] there does appear to once again be a racial double standard with our Black QB's. In Washington it eventually ended with vicious articles about the "Redskins" racist history and the city we live in. Face it folks...."The Grand Ole Opre" ain't hardly "The Chocolate City" Fisher has more rope down there. But, as we saw with Dan Snyder and his signing of Donovan we'll see the same thing here with Vince Young. Cooler heads indeed. Owner's aren't going to let their cities become divided by "egos".
Hey Dreamer....what's the feel from the Black community in Nashville? I mean...they've seen this by Fisher before haven't they? RIP Steve McNair.
