Obviously, things have changed dramatically in just one year's time. Since LeBron James bolted for the Miami Heat, you could feel the shift of Eastern Conference power like a massive snow storm flowing slowly to the east coast and shutting down every city in its path. Right now, the Miami Heat are on top of an eight game winning streak, while the Cleveland Cavaliers just set an all-time NBA record with 25 straight losses. Fortunately for the Cavs, loss number 26 was barely averted, but you can feel the collective snarl from fans who know that the next losing streak will probably start in about two days.
Obviously, everyone expected that LeBron's exit would hurt the Cavs. Many consider him to be the best player in the NBA and one of the greatest players of all time. Some even expected that the Cavs would become a below average squad without LeBron. But no one expected that they would sink to become arguably the worst team in the history of the NBA.
The fact that the Cleveland Cavaliers have become such a horrifically bad NBA team after LeBron's departure makes a very clear and impressive point: This man was able to nearly single-handedly turn one of the worst teams in the history of the NBA into a serious title contender. He took the worst of the worst and put them up among the very best. That's nothing short of awesome.
This new revelation may also explain why LeBron felt that he had to leave Cleveland. James was highly determined to bring a title to his home state, no matter what the cost. He elevated his game to mind-numbing levels, all in hopes that he could do what many considered to be the impossible. I saw James do the same thing in high school, as his lowly group of mediocre teammates were able to beat the heck out of the number one ranked team in the nation, Oak Hill Academy (a school whose entire existence seems to be built around basketball). It was during that game eight years ago that I knew LeBron James was not your ordinary superstar.
Cavs owner Dan Gilbert had good reason to chastise and attack James in public, in large part because he knew that, deep down, he'd never be able to replace LeBron. In fact, the NBA may never see another player like him. To remove a team from the basement of NBA history and give them a chance to put them within striking distance of an NBA title is nothing short of legendary. Nothing sends that signal clearer than the amazing losing streak that just came to an end.

Agree with all you've said...except for Dan "mini-me" Gilbert. Gilbert created a monster by allowing a 18 YO LeBron to have his way...access to the Quicken Jet for Maverick Carter and others, access to the team, 6 figure jobs for a couple of his crew. All to keep the King happy. BTW, Pat Riley has STOPPED all of that in Miami, and LeBron seems to be ok with that.
Gilbert knew when LeBron signed his 3-year 2nd deal (instead of the normal 6 year deal) that he could leave. They tried to put pieces around LBJ to win, but they really did not build a team like the Lakers have, like San Antonio has and like Miami is doing.
Gilbert worked here in Ohio to allow casino gambling and he positioned himself as the owner of the contract to build 4 casinos in the key cities here. Cleveland's and Cincinnati's have broken ground. If Gilbert had not owned the Cavs and if they had not been successful, he would never have had a chance to land what is a billiuon dollar plus contract.
Bottom line, LeBron was wrong in how he handled the move (The Decision), but he did the right thing for him, his brand and his family. He owed it to Gilbert to tell him weeks in advance. LeBrons immuturity certainly showed and we can only hope he learns from it.
Gilbert has shown his true colors to a degree. His note has for certain made Cleveland the wasteland for major free agents. Only rookies and 2nd/3rd level players would go there. The current team is made up of 5 players that can play secondary roles for other NBA teams, and the rest are D-League players. Also, Brian Shaw and Tom Izzo both said NO to Cleveland as coach. Byron Scott was THIRD choice. But, his casino revenue will ultimately make his Cavs earnings chump change. Think Gilbert also wins in the end.
The losers are Cleveland/NE Ohio fans.
And, that's what's sad.

Dr. Boyce Watkins, PhD...you have no clue what you're talking about. You claim to know about sports evidently since this is your topic, and yet you show zero credibility. You make this claim about Lebron being so valuable, because obviously look how bad his team is doing without him...what a scholarly Sports intuition you have going there...wow. I'm a fan of the Bucs ..guess where their from? You've got 30 seconds Boyce.
If you had an ounce of credibility when talking sports, you'd mention this:
Date Player Injury
02/02/11 --Daniel Gibson -- Left quad contusion
01/22/11 -- Anthony Parker-- Strained lower back
01/18/11 --Mo Williams -- Strained hip
01/07/11 --Leon Powe -- Right knee
01/07/11 --Anderson Varejao-- Torn right ankle tendon - out for season
01/07/11--Daniel Gibson ---Sprained left ankle
01/05/11--Anthony Parker --Sore back
01/01/11 --Daniel Gibson --Leg
12/31/10 --Anderson Varejao--Broken cheekbone
12/29/10 --Mo Williams Hip flexor injury
12/26/10 -- Daniel Gibson --Flu
12/18/10 -- Leon Powe -- Lacerated finger
12/18/10 -- Joey Graham --Strained right quadriceps
11/13/10 -- Anderson Varejao --Bruised ribs
11/10/10 -- Mo Williams -- Groin
11/01/10 -- Antawn Jamison --Sore left knee
10/30/10 -- Mo Williams -- Groin
10/21/10 -- Daniel Gibson -- Neck strain
Add to that they are without Big Z..( The former all star center) anyone with an ounce of intelligence can see the real problem the Cavs are having and why they're doing so poorly. Moe Williams, and Varejao out for so long..and you wonder why the Cavs are doing so poorly? The fact you make zero mention of the unprecedented injuries show's your complete lack of understanding on the subject. In fact, what it does show is your bias. What you're expounding on is your fandom of a Black athlete, albeit a superior once in a generation one at that. If your a fan because of his play, fine. If your compelled to discuss this topic in such a narrow manner because Lebron is also Black, than that's fine too...just know, people see the motives without commenting.
Im a 42 y/o Black male and am sick and tired of the media/fan blinders in regards to black athletes..because they're a black man or women. Home team blinders. Lebron is a joke as a man, and a disgrace as an athlete. His Ego-maniacal behavior from day one was disgusting. His "Decision" was a narcissistic, self aggrandizing embarrassment to the Black race. He's the poster child of everything that is wrong with Sport in the USA.
Let's talk of his self made slogans of endearment. "King James"; "Rise up": and "I am a Witness" Taking Southern Black Baptist religious commentary unto himself. Love me..Worship me..Watch me Market me.
Want to a good service to the Black community instead of being part of the problem? Help us if you want to use your voice. Help the Black Community. Research, investigate, look to the heart of the matter and for God's sake, tell the truth instead of feeding the myths and lies.

WOW I guess you feel you got it all figured out. But if you were being honest you would admit that while LeBron was there with the CAVS and when they were in the playoffs that man could not have an off night because there was not one player to step up and take give him help. I am sure he was tired of carrying the azzez for one. The next thing.. why did he need to let them know anything?? They trade players all the time and most of the time the player doesn't even know about it until they tell him the day of the trade! The slogan he supposedly self-made... well the media and everyone helped promote it so any issues he may have were not created just by him. Least we forget Michael Jordan was an azzhole as were several of the other big time players oh and they all had slogans and thought they were all that too. Look at Kobe... he thinks he is the best period and has a very f-ed up disposition about him. Leave that man alone and stop trying to say what he is or isn't. I am sure you are not perfect in any form or fashion yet you can blatantly point out this young mans flaws when you don't really know him... just of him. As for the CAVS even if they wouldn't have had all the injuries they still were going to suck so STOP PLAYING on that one and call a spade a spade. LeBron made that team everyone knows that!!!! His decision to leave and how he chose to do it was his business... so what if you don't agree with it.. the media hyped it up and I bet you watched it as did all the other people that have such a big problem with it. If you're such the mature person you claim to be let that man grow up and make his mistakes like we all do.... I'm sure you have done some things that have pissed people off too Mr. Perfect!!!

Darnay...ALL of the players you listed are scrubs. Parker isn't the best player in his household (his all-world sister is), Mo Williams has shown he isn't the same player without LBJ, Varejo is a good serviceable 6th man, Z and Shaq are WAY PAST thier prime.
At best, Cavs would have 7 more wins w/o LBJ. That is still a total collapse!

What the fans of the Cavs should also realize is that if the owner really wanted to create a winning team he would have done everything in his power to put a supporting cast around Lebron that was worthy of his talents.
I disagree that Gilbert had a right to blast James in the media the way he did. He sounded to me like a slavemaster upset that one of his slaves had the audacity to run for freedom.
People criticize the way James handled his decision, but that is like all those barry Bonds haters that booed him, but if he was on their team it's a different matter. If he had gone to the Knicks would they think it was handled poorly? I think not. Whether it was done in the way you would have or not doesn't make it wrong. The many kids of the Boys & Girls Club that benefitted from it probably think it was a great idea. Besides if James was white we probably aren't even having this debate.I was a Laker fan for over 40 years but I hope Wade & James have a fantastic run in Miami and upset even more people.
