Whenever there's a disaster in some foreign country, you can expect some celebrity or well-known personality to say something insensitive or stupid. Now with Twitter, it's almost a guarantee.
Rapper 50 Cent was admonished for tweeting that his "hoes" in Japan were safe and comedian Gilbert Gottfried lost his endorsement deal with AFLAC Insurance Company for tweeting jokes about the disaster.
Now comes New York Liberty guard Cappie Pondexter (pictured) who tweeted that the earthquake and the tsunami that followed could have been the wrath of God:
"What if God was tired of the way they treated their own people in there own country! Idk guys he makes no mistakes," she tweeted.
She later added: "u just never knw! They did pearl harbor so u can't expect anything less."
After being called out by her followers, local papers and Websites, Pondexter took to her Twitter on Monday to apologize: "I wanna apologize to anyone I may hurt or offended during this tragic time," the tweet said. "I didn't realize that my words could be interpreted in the manner which they were. People that knw me would tell u 1st hand I'm a very spiritual person and believe that everything, even disasters happen 4 a reason and that God will shouldn't be questioned but this is a very sensitive subject at a very tragic time and I shouldn't even have given a reason for the choice of words I used.
"The least thing I wanted was to hurt or offend anyone so again I truly apologize. If you've lost respect for me that's totally fine but please don't let me or my words lose the respect of u[sic] the WNBA and what it stands for.
"I'm very strong woman evn strong enough 2 admit an apologize when I'm wrong. Twitter is a voice and wth tht I wanna apologize again."
The WNBA didn't comment on the incident, but New York Liberty did say they spoke to Pondexter about what she tweeted saying, "She made a mistake and quickly apologized for that mistake."
Do you forgive Pondexter for her comments or should she be punished by the league or her team for possibly hurting the WNBA's image?

Yes, I forgive her. The same thing was said by whites when New Orleans was flooded by Katrina...I know I am not the only one thinking this but I pray for Japan also but why wasn't some of this army vessels and plans sent to New Orleans after Katrina hit to evacuate the city?

I am so upset when people who say something wise feel they have to go back and apologize. I don't think Pearl Harbor had anything to do with the earthquake and it's aftermath. There was really nothing to apologize about here. She gave her opinion and we do live in a country where we have freedom of speech. The bible clearly stats that people will hate you and turn against you in the name of Jesus. If I tell you that God is real and the repercussion of sin is death and life in hell if you don't repent, I would never apologize because to me that is the truth. I'm never gonna feel sorry for any way I praise and acknowledge God. This world is jacked up. America has done way more damage to other countries than they have done to us. People blaming Hurricane Katrina on some levees. Don't you know there is nothing man can do to control the forces of nature and stop trying to give a scientific explanation to everything that happens. People are so uneducated and misinformed. They believe anything they see on tv and the internet. The media is a tool to plant seeds in your head and people just take it for the truth. Do your own research and pray for guidance and understanding. Now what 50 Cent and that Gottfried guy, the voice for Affleck (or however u spell it), what they said was very ignorant.

She deserves no respect for statement she made. All that were in WW11 ,are gone, the people of today in Japan should be helped and Pondexiter should be thankful she is in a position to help, she should also learn to speak english, before spitting out her dirt.
GOD has nothing to do with this disaster.

This is a nation at peace with lies. The truth isn't something we really want to hear. Could you imagine if you had a truth filter during the elections? What about while you were watching one of those infomercials? While listening to long winded talk radio host? Can you imagine the chaos at a used car delership? The truth is, we love to be lied to. (Do I look fat in this? How do you like my new do? I really knocked your socks off last night, didn't I? My son looks just like me, doesn't he?)
Stars, or whoever have the right to their opinions, they shouldn't be punished for expressing them, nor should they be made to recant them. We can now place them in catagory they belong to--human.

Free country...she can say whatever she wants. It pisses me off that she had to go back and apologize for the way she feels. If ppl don't like it, they shouldn't be reading her tweets!!!!!! Put a fu**ing muzzle of FOX if we want to be so politically correct. Hell,America responded faster to Japan's tragedy than they did in New Orleans.

Where was all of the outrage when dementia having Pat Robertson and his racist Christian ilk said the same sh-t about Haiti, voodoo and black people in general? The same sh-t they have been saying for the past 4 centuries?
It seems as if the rest of humanity gets a free pass to malign blacks but God forbid if we utter one word against their almighty azzes.
When disaster strikes black people and black countries, the message boards and airwaves of full of racist blame-the-victim diatribe and many religious spins on the "curse of Ham". Others can dish it but obviously can't take it.

Free country? Free speech.
I am sure she didnt mind when Imus called her 'a nappy headed ho' or did she? Below were her quotes in 2007
“Imus’ racial comments are unacceptable and inappropriate. The fact that this is not the first time that improper comments were made concerning Black athletes shows where Imus stands. Not only were the comments racist, they were also misogynistic. Therefore, I do not feel that an apology or the two week suspension is ample punishment. It is my understanding that his show is supposed to be comedic. Who does this humor?
