From the Los Angeles Times: One year ago Wednesday, the Cleveland Cavaliers fired Mike Brown because they didn't think he was good enough to coach LeBron James.
The Lakers celebrated that anniversary by hiring him to coach Kobe Bryant.
When contacted by The Times' Broderick Turner about this development Wednesday afternoon, Bryant refused to comment
I've got a few, the first being, "What the ...?"
When I heard this week that the Lakers were going to offer basketball's most celebrated and coveted coaching job to a guy named Brown, my first thought was Larry Brown. My second thought was Hubie Brown.
Not only did Mike Brown not seem to be the best available candidate, he didn't even seem to be the best available Brown.

Quote from article: "Bryant's refusal to comment says volumes about his feeling on this hire. The actual hire says volumes about Jimmy Buss' feelings about Bryant's future."
The hiring of Mike Brown and not Laker assistant Brian Shaw indicates a total change away from the long tenured Phil Jackson era and the formulation of a change: a new style of play more defensive oriented for the future of the team that does not include an aging Kobe Bryant.
NBA age has finally caught up with Kobe Bryant (he can't do it every night anymore) and in order for this team to better itself, it needs a fresh start, get younger and play better defense as a team.
And as far as the relationship between Kobe and the new coach? Both successful and unseccessful relationships goes both ways and that's more so on Kobe Bryant and his attitude and willingness towards Mike Brown because Mike Brown is coming in to ooach this team with his style of play & agenda and not be there to babysit a possibly disgruntled Kobe since he did not get what he wanted...And that was Laker assistant Brian Shaw to be the coach.
Mike Brown learned from the LeBron James situation in Cleveland and he won't repeat that mistake.
And for Kobeno matter how he feels, he's the team captain, will be expected to be the team leader, the example and play 100% every night regardless of how he feels or who's the coach.
For Kobe, be pissed off at Laker management who made the decision to not promote Brian Shaw and hire and outsider: new coach Mike Brown.

I thought the hiring of mack brown was a good choice. If Kobe does not like what transpired, then maybe he might want to give some thought to the realazation that he is empolyed by the owners. He also want to consider doing as mr jordan did, retire and by himself a team. but my advice to kobe is to do his best to adapt to what ever Mr Brown requestes him him to do.

I do not like the choice of Mike Brown > Who is He and what has he don laker to qualify to coach the Lakers. I don,t get it . What about the assistant coach Brian Shaw? He has paid his dues just like the other assistants. He won't last long Mike Brown hes not Lakers material!

I am a life-long Laker fan, so this is hard for me to say but here goes: This is the stupidest decision the Lakers have ever made. Some where Jerry West is crying in his beer as his protege done lost his mind! Mitch Kupcake and Jimmy Busted couldn't have picked a worse coach if they closed their eyes and picked from a hat. This guy got OUTCOACHED BADLY a couple of years in a row...once by STAN VAN GUNDY who is not a 1/4 of the coach his brother is. This is sad. If I were Kobe I would retire!

OH WELL, THIS MARKS THE END OF THE LAKERS TITLE RUNS. AS LONG AS HE'S COACH I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF THE LAKERS DIDN'T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. DUMBEST MOVE NEXT TO RUNNING SHAQ OFF.

First I would like to just say congratulations to Mike Brown on his new job.And he should have never been fired in Cleveland. I would not be surprised at all if he got a championship right away in LA !!

I love my Lakers, win or lose. The decision to hire Mike Brown in my opinion was not the right one and if Kobe wasn't consulted before the hire then it's clear that the Lakers are sending a clear message that Kobe no longer fit into their future plans. Kobe isn't going to learn a new offense under this coach. He may do it somewhere else but certainly not in L.A. and frankly I don't blame him. Having lived in L.A. for years and a former season ticket holder, I'm willing to bet that the fans sitting in those expensive seats will never accept a defense (priority) oriented team.

I'm not a huge basketball fan, however, if what I read about Mr. Brown is correct:
Best winning percentage of any coach in Cleveland's 39-year history.
Earned Coach of the Year honors after the 2008-2009 season, was named Coach of the Month three times during the season (December, February and March)
Led the Cavaliers to becoming only the 12th team in NBA history to have 66 wins, a franchise high. Brown was the fourth youngest coach in NBA history to win 60 games.
Led Cleveland to the Eastern Conference Semifinals in the 2006 Playoffs and became the first coach in franchise history to lead his team to a playoff series win in his first season.
In the 2007 Playoffs, Led the Cavaliers to their first Eastern Conference Championship and a trip to the NBA Finals.
In the 2008 Playoffs, the Cavaliers defeated the Washington Wizards 4-2 before taking the eventual NBA Champion Boston Celtics to a seven-game series.
So, what's the problem with him?
